“PVC” in a quotation can mean a polymer resin, a rigid compound for pipes and profiles, or a flexible compound for cables and sheet. They are specified differently and are not interchangeable. This checklist is written for converters and importers in Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC, where PVC pipe and profile demand is a common reason to buy, and helps you compare suppliers on facts before asking for a price.
This is a buyer’s reference, not a PLAXRAW product specification. The material is described on the PVC reference page. PLAXRAW does not publish prices or stock on this page; to discuss a requirement use the quotation request form, and any grade, availability and price are confirmed in writing for your enquiry.
Step 1: Fix the application before the grade
- Pipe and profile (rigid): the compound, stabiliser system and filler content must match the product standard you work to; see pipe and profile extrusion.
- Cable and flexible products: plasticiser type and content, and any restricted-substance requirements, drive the specification.
- Buying resin to compound yourself: K-value, particle properties and cleanliness matter, and so does the rest of your formulation.
Say whether you are buying resin or a finished compound, and the product standard your output must meet.
Step 2: Specify the product, not just the name
| Item | What to ask for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Form | Resin, rigid compound or flexible compound, with the producer grade name | Each has a different specification and data sheet. |
| K-value | K-value and the method (for example ISO 1628-2) | A molecular-weight indicator used to match resin to process. |
| Resin properties | Bulk density, particle size and volatile matter as reported by the producer | Affect processing, dry-blend behaviour and consistency. |
| Cleanliness | Impurity or contamination figures the producer reports | Contamination shows as defects in thin or visible parts. |
| Compound system | For compounds: stabiliser system and filler content as declared | Determines suitability for pipe, profile or cable use. |
| Classification and regulatory fit | Reference to ASTM D1784 (rigid) or ASTM D2287 (non-rigid) where used, plus SDS and any restricted-substance declaration | Gives a common language and covers regulated end uses. |
Step 3: Ask for the documents that prove it
Request the current technical data sheet (TDS) and safety data sheet (SDS) for the exact grade and a certificate of analysis (COA) per shipment where issued. For compounds, ask for the declaration your product standard or market requires. Compare a sample from the commercial production route against your control material, and run your own processing and finished-product tests. Filler in PVC compounds is a separate decision: see coated vs uncoated calcium carbonate.
Step 4: Fix the commercial terms
-
Packaging: 25 kg bags on pallets, big bags or bulk, with moisture protection.
-
Quantity and timing: trial quantity, regular volume and delivery window.
-
Delivery term: state the Incoterms 2020 term you want quoted so offers are comparable.
-
Import requirements: confirm with your customs broker which conformity and customs documents apply to your product in Saudi Arabia or the destination country before shipment.
Compare offers by landed cost per usable unit, including freight and trial cost, not by the ex-works figure alone.
Enquiry template
- Product and process (pipe, profile, cable, sheet) and the standard it must meet.
- Resin or compound, rigid or flexible, and K-value or compound requirements.
- Filler or additive constraints.
- Required documents (TDS, SDS, COA, any declaration).
- Trial quantity and regular volume.
- Packaging, delivery place and Incoterms term.
Send it through the PLAXRAW quotation form. PLAXRAW reviews it and replies with the relevant questions or options; it does not promise stock, specifications or lead times before the details are confirmed.

Sources and editorial scope
Prepared by the PLAXRAW editorial team on 15 October 2026. This is editorial buying guidance, not PLAXRAW laboratory data, and it contains no price, stock or lead-time commitment. Standards are named so you can ask a supplier which method applies; consult the current edition of each standard for its scope.
- ASTM D1784 — Standard Classification System and Basis for Specification for Rigid PVC and CPVC Compounds.
- ASTM D2287 — Standard Classification System and Basis for Specification for Nonrigid Vinyl Chloride Polymer and Copolymer Molding and Extrusion Compounds.
- US CPSC — prohibition of specified phthalates in children’s toys and child care articles (Federal Register, CPSIA Section 108), as an example of a restricted-substance rule that affects flexible compounds.
- ISO 1628-2 (viscosity of PVC resins in dilute solution) is named so you can ask which method a supplier uses.
- ICC — Incoterms 2020.
